Valentine's Weekend at Santa Cruz Island

We woke up early Valentine's Day to head out to Santa Cruz Island for a three day weekend. This was the first over night trip we planned on taking our cat Bo. We gave her 1/2 a dramamine the night before and the other half in the morning hoping it would prevent her from getting seasick, unfortunately it didn't work as well as we had hoped. She was sick for the first two hours as we sailed out, after that she seemed to feel better and once at anchor she was back to her normal self for the weekend.

We decided to anchor at Prisoners Harbor for our two nights at Santa Cruz and we couldn't have asked for better weather! So much for winter here in Southern California…. Sunny and 75 degrees! We had a blast hiking, stand up paddling and playing with the drone. The anchorage was calm all day, but as a cruel joke was SUPER rolly all night.  The next morning we woke up early after falling asleep watching the Lord of the Rings at 8pm…. Yep, eight o'clock. So we were up with the sun, made our coffee, pulled anchor and headed over to Scorpion for the rest of the day.

Once at Scorpion we launched the drone again and were quickly asked to return it back to the boat. Josh was able to sneak in some sweet shots though while bringing it back. Drones SUPPOSEDLY are not allowed in National Park boundaries, but we think the Island Packers boat and rangers were sick of us hovering over them. We spent the rest of the morning paddling around the anchorage exploring sea caves and eating breakfast burritos before heading home.

Until next time...
